Background

I was born and raised in England, and moved to the U.S. in 1979. After living on the Arizona/Utah border for a couple of years, I went back to school to earn a Master's degree in English at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I completed my MA in 1984, and went on to the University of Arizona where I earned a Ph.D. in 1990. My dissertation explored the semiotics of quilting, and many of my publications focus on quilts in literature and culture. I also write and publish personal essays.

I've been teaching a variety of writing and literature classes at Weber State University since 1990. I've also worked as a part-time administrator, running the Writing Across the Curriculum Program, then co-coordinating First Year Experience, and then directing the Bachelor of Integrated Studies Program. I am currently the director of the Honors Program.

I'm married to Alan Livingston, who has three grown daughters, and we have two adorable grand children.
